The case: grow $500,000 toward $1.5 million over ten years while paying annual withdrawals to a foundation. Four of us from The Village School, as Asgard Assets, built a portfolio for it and defended the strategy in a written report and a live presentation.

We reached the Global Finale: 11 teams out of more than 5,400 that began the competition.

The team’s work

  • One strategy, written up in a final report and presented live to a panel of judges.
  • Qualitative research, backtesting and the Monte Carlo simulation were my teammates’ work.
  • Global Finalist: one of 11 teams at the Finale, and one of 49 that reached the semifinals, per Wharton’s announcement (opens in a new tab).

What I did

  • Did the company-level quantitative research behind our stock picks.
  • Proposed much of the allocation: roughly 80% equities and 20% Treasuries, with cash set aside for liquidity.
  • Helped choose the stocks and bonds in the final portfolio.
  • Designed the final report and the presentation.
